How do diatoms move within and how on the surface of a biofilm? Do they move from place to place?
In the upper video on the left you can see diatoms of the species Craticula cuspidata (30x time lapse) in a picture film.
The video below shows Pinnularia viridiformis on the surface of a biofilm. It has been scattered with tiny particles so that one can see the forces exerted by the diatoms on the surface.
